Write engineering work orders for the refinery units' turnarounds to be executed during the
unit shutdown.
• Field job-walk and observation with planners and operators, identify Tie-In points in the
field and the P&ID, draw Isometric drawing and complete engineering work order package
and submit it for approval.
• Assist and support the engineering group during turnaround executions.
• Actively participating in the planning and execution of unit turnarounds, both planned and
unplanned, answering technical inquiries, making technical recommendations, providing
equipment and system troubleshooting, improving designs engineering tools and
developing designs engineering procedures.
• Interfacing with and supporting the maintenance department, operation, turnaround team,
area inspectors, inspection engineers, IMPACT turnaround work processes and Subject
Matter Experts (SME) and project engineers to establish priorities for the work and
following through with proactive design and execution of mechanical projects and
improvements.
• Provide engineering support for the routine daily operation of process units within the refinery.
Support requires collaboration and interpersonal skills necessary to work with operations,
maintenance, and technical functions within the global refining system.
• Spend time in the field working with operations and other technical teams to
scope/troubleshoot mechanical problems and issues in process plants, develop alternatives,
and propose and implement solutions for long term reliability and total cost of ownership.
• Develop and manage engineering work orders for projects ranging from repairing a valve
to replacing large complex equipment or pressure vessels.
Provided technical support for all components of critical bolted flanged connections.
• Evaluated and resolved issues related to pipe support, expansion joints, and spring hangers
to develop practical and safe solutions.
• Assisted turnarounds and maintenance teams in addressing technical maintenance issues
in preparation for and execution of planned outages.
• Worked closely with inspection staff in the safe, timely and cost-effective development
and implementation of inspection work requests.
• Actively participated in failure investigations in cooperation with other refinery technical
staff e.g. inspection staff, maintenance and operations teams.
• Supported project engineers in various stages of capital projects as needed.
• Reported to the fixed equipment integrity manager and the fixed equipment integrity team
lead of Mechanical Integrity group.
• Designed and created instrumentation systems for industrial environments.
• Participated in failure analysis to determine root cause and help develop long-term
solutions to prevent repeat failures. Identify and solve worst actors.
• Reviewed design of engineered temporary repairs and support their field implementation.
Worked at refineries such as Exxon Mobil, Chevron, Conoco Phillips (Phillips 66), Tesoro,
Valero, BP and Shell, offshore and onshore.
• Operated rotating equipment and portable machines to perform machining job on-site such
as flange facing, drilling, fine boring, reaming, journal turning, pipe cutting, pipe beveling,
line boring, grinding.
• Preformed on-line leak sealing repair, online safety relief valves test, hot tapping & line
stopping, on-line valve maintenance, bolt torque and tension.
• Had good mechanical aptitude, familiarity with precision measurement instruments and
machine shop experience, using the laser alignment tool to perform the portable machines
setting.
• Studied specifications, engineering drawings, tool orders, and shop data and conferred with
engineering and shop personnel to resolve design problems related to material
characteristics, dimensional tolerances, service requirements, manufacturing procedures,
and cost.
