• Ensuring that the company owned vessels are operating in a safe, efficient and economic manner and in full compliance with regulations.
• Co-ordinate day to day operation of the vessels and coordinate with subordinate departments for the smooth operation of the vessels.
• Evaluate deviations from norms and take measures to ensure operation of same, by familiarizing with the fundamental operating concepts of the deck and engine machinery/equipment of the vessels.
• Evaluate all incoming reports from the vessels. Identify areas which require immediate attention, initiate and take corrective actions.
• Control of consumption of materials, stores and spares by the vessels and effect timely supply of same in coordination with the various suppliers and maintaining the monthly operating budget.
• Closely monitor the performance of all vessels and ensure that Charter party requirements are being fulfilled. Identify reasons for deviation and take remedial measures.
• Ensure all the classification and statutory survey status are maintained, all surveys are carried out within the window and ensure certificates are valid.
• Keep abreast with all regulatory requirements and keep the vessels informed accordingly.
• Monitor & verify that the regular safety drills pertaining to the various contingencies are being conducted and recorded.
• Undertake vessel technical inspections and submit reports on condition, performance and operational readiness.
• Maintaining and updating of drawings / plans of all assigned company’s vessels.
• Prepare Technical Specification for docking operations according to class requirements and company Maintenance Policy
• Superintendence of repairing vessels on dry-docks. Preparation of defect lists, Scheduling of docking, liaise with ship yards, Pre - docking surveys, Follow-up of Steel renewal, Major modifications, propellers and shaft alignment, CPP related repairs, and engine overhauls
• Review dry docking before and following each dry dock, monitor accuracy, quality and timely managed repairs.
• Oversee major repairs to safeguard they are undertaken to the required standard and Liaise with construction team and third party technical team.
• Oversee corrective action of non-conformity raised at internal and external audits against technical procedures of the Safety Management System (SMS).
• Evaluate the performance of crew on board and maintain crew appraisal records.
• Ensure that all the items pertaining with the safety and pollution prevention are regularly checked to achieve high standards of safe and pollution free voyages.
• Monitor and ensure monthly operating costs of the vessels are within the budget.
• Investigate incident & root cause analysis, internal audits of ships & office, major machinery failures, accidents and defect reports.
• Deal with contingencies.
• Report to the Technical Manager.
