Job Summary:
-To Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate the nursing quality improvement and patient safety program that
includes data collection, data aggregation and analysis, developing and implementing the improvement
activities.
- Support the Director of Nursing in leading and liaising with nursing teams in all aspects of Operational and
strategic activities for the Division, leading and directing on positive patient experience & safety.
- Facilitate compliance with requirements of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organization
(JCAHO), Central Board for Accreditation of Healthcare Institutions (CBAHI). Center for Disease Control and
Prevention (CDC) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
- Strong understanding of clinical workflow processes, resulting in current and future workflow enhancements
and performance improvements to support nursing practice.

Supports all clinical staff across the hospital system in the specialty area of Nursing. Organizes and directs the work of the Nursing Department. Coordinates staff to assure that effective nursing services are provided, and quality standards are met. Staffing consists of RNs, LPN’s, Health Assistants and other healthcare providers as needed. A multidisciplinary team approach to care is utilized. Applying professional knowledge in solving nursing problems within established policies and practices. Also to develop and maintain an environment that supports all of the staff in the Nursing Department.

⮚ Duties and responsibilities:
● Works with head nurse to determine the optimal allocation of staff per shift on each unit.
● Coordinates the care of residents/clients on assigned shift. Communicates shifts concerns by unit to appropriate staff.
● Serves as administrative authority for the smooth function of all units on assigned shift. Notifies administrator, associate administrator, head nurse or manager of urgent concerns during the shift.
● Assists in survey compliance, quality assurance and staff development duties, as assigned. Notifies head nurse and staff development coordinator of identified learning needs.
● Assures that staffing is in place. Assigns and directs unit, pool and agency staffs. Reviews schedule in order to place unassigned floats.
● Performs rounds at least twice each shift to monitor the conditions and care of patients.
● Supervises staff and assures survey compliance on a daily basis. Provides guidance and support to staff to better plan workflow.
● Responds to code blue, medical assist and different code situations. Assists staff, as needed.
● Audits charts routinely. Provides clinical expertise in documentation.
● Directs staff response to emergencies, such as severe weather, fire or bomb scare. Participates in fire drills. Directs disaster evacuation plan, as needed.
● Meets routinely with the associate administrator and nurse manager group.
● Assists with the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
● Serves and/or leads committees, as assigned, including, but not limited to, quality assurance, infection control, safety, etc.
● Compliance and integrity management - helping make sure the organization is meeting all the national laws and standards such as the Joint Commission and CBAHI.

-Assists infection control manager in the promotion and application of infection control measures to prevent and/or control infections among patients and employees. Facilitates compliance with requirements of Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organization (JCAHO), Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Department of Public Health.

 Duties and responsibilities:
• Perform hospital site assessments with infection prevention interventions to reduce risk of infection.
• Assist in occupational exposure management.
• Lead and participate in multidisciplinary Performance Improvement initiatives.
• Provide staff education regarding infection control and prevention.
• Participate in Accreditation Surveys.
• Perform hand hygiene surveillance.
• Perform Surgical Site Infection Surveillance.
• Perform CLABSI surveillance & CAUTI Bundle surveillance.
• Assist with the development of a surveillance plan based on the population(s) served, services provided, and previous surveillance data.
• Assist with the development of proactive strategies and best practice to prevent infections.
• Assists with the development and maintenance of infection prevention/control policies and procedures/standards and education.
• Assists with the design and conducts infection prevention/control education, including new employee orientation and all other programs required by regulatory agencies.

 Infection control specialist Qualifications:

• Highly qualified nurse (Bachelor of sciences in nursing).
• High level skills in critical thinking and assessment related to infection control measures and aseptic techniques.
• Ability to work independently.
• Willingness to learn new techniques.
• Excellent communication and teaching skills.
• High level clinical communication skills with physicians and other clinical staff.
• Willingness to maintain and improve knowledge level related to infection control measures and aseptic techniques.

• Helped refine unit policies and procedures regarding implanted vascular access devices.
• Helped increase staff education on vascular access devices care and complication management.
• Helped increase patient& family knowledge regarding vascular access devices.
