SATORP LP Model Enhancement and Upgrade Project - Project Leader



Duties:
• Collect data & identify existing planning processes, and develop future planning processes in Line with strategies.
• Develop Functional & Design Specifications (FDS) for the Refinery Linear Programming Model building, software and hardware configuration.
• Follow-up on any modifications or changes on the Refinery Units to modify and integrate the modelization of process units, including new units, modified or upgraded units.
• Take complete ownership of the LP Model during Model meetings and participate in the monthly Performance Control Meetings.
• Prepare the technical requirements of Linear Programming Services; and assist in developing RFPs, reviewing bidder’s qualifications and selecting the right supplier.
• Support the Supervisor Performance Control on LP related tendering and contracting activities including, but not limited to, attending pre-tender meetings, answering related questions, evaluating of technical tenders prior to awarding.
• Submit regular reports on LP services contracts progress and highlight any pending issues or problems
• Work with the Unit Operations teams to obtain and maintain the latest upto date technical data and information on process units including product properties, operating conditions and process changes. Maintain and organize upto date database in coordination with the ICT department.
• Ensure the LP Model compatibility, integration and accuracy, and perform LP Model reconciliations to identify areas of deficiency in the model.
• Coordinate and follow-up on units material balances, data reconciliations and process simulations for improving the accuracy of the LP Model.

As the Refinery's Oil Movement Engineer, I am responsible for the monitoring the daily production and blending activities and routine jobs at the Site. I am accountable to upgrade, maintain and run the refinery LP model for the development of projected refinery profitability, Product quality control management, Blending & Scheduling of Crude as well as refinery products alongwith management of all operations pertaining to loading and unloading of POL.

Duties:
• Evaluation of refinery operations using PIMS LP Model by analysing Actual vs. Theoretical Production of actual crude blend processed.
• Evaluation and analysis of different crudes to improve profitability.
• Liaison between the refinery operations team and the crude import planning team regarding the results based on the LP model summary for optimization of profit making products in line with the economically feasible crude blends.
• Running multi case analysis based on different crude blends and pricing models for ensuring the most optimal option for refinery profitability.

Linear Programming:

I was accountable to upgrade, maintain and run the refinery LP model and provide fortnightly analysis pertaining to forecasted refinery margins. Also responsible to develop Refinery's business as well as production plans along with evaluation and selection of different imported Crude Oils.

Duties:
Refinery Optimization
• Responsible to estimate Refinery Profitability by determining Gross Refiners’ Margin (GRM) using PIMS LP model.
• Use of PIMS LP model to ascertain mode of refinery operations.
• Development of Quarterly, Half Yearly and Annual Production Plans.
• Preparing refinery production plans using PIMS LP Models and Price forecasting.
• Fortnightly Evaluation of Refinery Margins
• Maintenance, upgrading and improving the LP model.
• Continuous liaison with the operations team regarding the best blends of crudes available for enhancing production of profit making products.
• Develop comparison reports of various crudes under study using Crude Manager L.E. Software.

Crude and Petroleum Products Import/Export Scheduling

• Monthly, Quarterly and Yearly development of crude oil import schedules for the refinery.
• Selection/Evaluation of crudes for import with respect to the PIMS analysis and throughput planning.

As a Refinery Pricing Analyst my responsibilities involved the development of Ex-Refinery Prices of all regulated as well as de-regulated petroleum products, Daily, Weekly and Monthly reporting for the Supply, Planning and Procurement activities. I was also responsible to monitor and provide analysis of International market trends and its relevant effects on domestic oil prices along with continuous feedback to Oil Movement Section regarding pricing trends for successful inventory management.

I was accountable to upgrade, maintain and run the refinery LP model and provide fortnightly analysis pertaining to forecasted refinery margins.

My other responsibilities included maintenance as well as updating of the Available Pricing Models (Purven & Gertz) along with development of forecasted pricing models for the LP Model for annual business plans and to monitor Refinery Margins (GRM) on a daily basis.

I joined Pakistan Refinery Limited as a Trainee Engineer in their Process and Operations department.

My responsibilities comprised of monitoring the daily production and routine jobs at the Site. Additional responsibilities included equipment performance evaluations, monitoring and controlling the Distributive Control System (DCS), process monitoring, rating & sizing of pumps, control valves, safety valves alongwith efficiency monitoring of Cooling towers, Furnaces and heat exchangers.

I Started my Chemical Engineering Career at Enar Petrotech Services (Pvt) Ltd as a Trainee Process Design Engineer. I was placed in the Process Department and was inducted in the following project teams during my time there.

1. Consolidation/Up-Dating and Re-drafting of P&ID’s for Byco Oil Refinery.

For this project i was responsible for the revision of all existing P&ID's in order to reflect what was actually present at the Refinery Site. Additional responsibilities included getting the P&ID's cadded by the Auto Cad team along with liaison with the subject refinery's process team for the P&ID's verification.

2. Naphtha Hydrotreater and Platformer Unit Catalyst Regeneration Facility for Byco’s refinery.

As the sole Process Engineer for this project, i was responsible for the complete design, hydraulics and equipment design and ratings alongwith P&ID revisions and tie in positioning. Additional responsibilities included continuous liaison with the mechanical and Auto Cad teams for Tanks construction and cadding jobs.

3. Diesel Hydro-desulphurization unit HAZOP development, PARCO.

For this project i was part of the HAZOP team. Responsibilities included assessment of system design capabilities to meet all specifications and safety standards
