Major responsibility is to plan, schedule, conduct, and manage scientific activities in the bioactive group and related areas. This includes scouting of bioactive natural compounds for antifungal activities, use of essential oils in various formulations along with emulsifiers like span80 and Etocas29, formulation preparations, development of qualitative and quantitative methods for measuring various constituents of formulations and measuring their stabilities and shelf-lives, extraction of natural products from plants; synthesis of bio-derived and phenolic resins, polyurethane foams and synthetic modifications of essential oils and other bioactive compounds for their use as antifungal agents; Chemical synthesis using high pressure steel vessels.
Career Highlights
Successfully synthesized and implemented some bioactive natural compounds as wood preservatives (IP under process).
Developed water-based emulsions of essential oils, as decay resistant preservatives, for industrial applications (IP under process).
Developed extraction methods for quantification of preservatives present in the treated wood.
Accomplished various lab tests for day-to-day operation i.e. analyses of raw materials, formulations, and determining their shelf-life.
Well versed with the standards of the lab, and the procedures for handling and disposing the chemicals according to EPA guidelines.
Developed professional links to source out cheap raw materials and developed quality assurance methods prior to their use.
Provide technical support to other projects within the organization as and when required.
included synthesis of asymmetric drugs precursors using enzymes and metal catalysts, and analyses of enantiopure compounds via GC, GCMS, NMR and Mass-spectrometry. Mentored graduate and undergraduate students in carrying out lab experiments, advanced purification and interpretation of data.
Career Highlights
Synthesized the intermediates of “(+)-Solenopsin A” using enzymes-, and ruthenium catalysts.
Developed expertise to produce enantiomerically pure compounds (>99% ee) through dynamic kinetic resolutions (DKR) and dynamic kinetic asymmetric transformations (DYKAT) of racemic mixtures.
Developed expertise in homogeneous catalysis of organic compounds.
Authored a book chapter for Wiley-VCH on enzymatic catalysis.
My duties and responsibilities included analysis of raw materials; sampling of various batches of tablets and syrups and validated all products according to USP and BP.
Development of new methods for the synthesis of biologically active compounds via one-pot cyclization reactions.
