Loop Energy

Kenya

October 2016 - March 2017

While competing in the annual Hult Prize competition, my team mates and I were tasked with creating an initiative that would impact the lives of 10 million refugees by 2020. We came up with the Loop initiative, which focused on generating sustainable and affordable energy, while also empowering environmentally displaced refugees across the African continent. The headquarters of the company would be based in Dubai, while the operations would take place within refugee camps in Kenya and spread from one neighbouring country to the next.

Our initiative was chosen from over 50, 000 applicants from universities around the world, to compete with the top 65 initiatives in the regional competition held in Dubai, and we finished the regional competition in the top 3. We were able to achieve this success by establishing partnerships with several companies and refugee camps that were willing to work side-by-side with our initiative.
