TITLE : “SIMULATION OF IGBT BASED TRACTION POWER CONVERTER USED IN THREE PHASE LOCOMOTIVE OF INDIAN RAILWAYS” Traction deals with design of propulsion system for train engines. The input power supply to train is the overhead (OH) catenary at single phase 25KV AC. But the induction motors which run the wheels of the locomotive require three phase 2180V AC. The system we are designing is simulated using MATLAB-SIMULINK. The above mentioned challenges are met during simulation. This project deals with • Design of the propulsion system that steps down this 25KV to a smaller value. • Conversion of this small value AC (exactly 1269V) to DC (and maintained at 2800V) by FQCs. • Inverters at the load side, draws power from this DC link (2800V) and converts to 3 phase AC at 2180V using Pulse Width Modulation. • Voltage as well as frequency is varied to meet the required load and torque demands.
